Ectal excipulum of globose texture (textura globosa).

Hymenium with strongly amyloid reaction of the asci and paraphyses, whereas the excipulum shows an inamyloid reaction.

Asci 8-spored and paraphyses septate with strongly pigmented apex; this pigment is responsible for the blackish colour of the ascoma.

Mature ascospores brown, ellipsoidal, with a distinct central septum.
