Ombrophila rivulorum

Velen.

Microscopía de Ombrophila rivulorum

Study description

Small ascomycete with a cartilaginous-gelatinous texture (characteristic of the genus), rarely exceeding 2-3 mm in diameter. It inhabits very humid areas associated with streams (hence the specific epithet rivulorum), on woody debris, roots, or plant matter. The color of the ascomata ranges from whitish to pinkish or lilac. Microscopically it is separated from related species by the large size of its ascospores and the guttules they contain inside.

The material studied was found on the roots of a semi-submerged broadleaf tree along the banks of a stream in the municipality of Merindad de Montija (Burgos), in early September.
