Octospora coccinea
(P.Crouan & H.Crouan) Brumm.

Study description
Small Octospora with an ascoma barely reaching 2 mm in diameter. The fruit body (ascoma) is initially cup-shaped (cupulate), quickly flattening out and displaying a yellow or orange-yellow color, with a slightly pubescent margin.
It usually occurs in small groups, generally in winter, associated with various mosses such as Encalypta vulgaris, Acaulon muticum and, more commonly, on species of the genus Bryum.
The specimens studied correspond to var. tetraspora, as they present four ascospores in each ascus, whereas the type variety exhibits octosporic (8-spored) asci.
The collection took place in mid-February in an area previously affected by a fire, growing on Bryum sp. in the municipality of Berango (Bizkaia).
