Hypoxylon cercidicola
(Berk. & M.A.Curtis ex Peck) Y.M.Ju & J.D.Rogers

Study description
An ascomycete strictly host-specific to dead or dying branches of ash (Fraxinus spp.). Stromata are discoidal, erumpent through the bark, reaching up to 15 mm in diameter. Color ranges from red to grey or sepia, and pigments extractable in 10% KOH are orange.
A rare and infrequently recorded species in the Iberian Peninsula, with the majority of records originating from other European countries.
The collection studied here was gathered in April in Amurrio (Álava) in a stand of Fraxinus excelsior, growing on a dead branch lying on the ground. The fungus was present in its conidial (anamorphic) state.
