Hypholoma subericaeum
(Fr.) Kühner

Study description
An uncommon species of Hypholoma that, like most of its congeners, displays a distinct preference for peat bogs and wetland habitats.
Macroscopically it resembles commoner species such as H. ericaeum, H. ericaeoides, etc., all of which possess larger spores.
Accurate identification requires microscopic examination, as is usual in this genus with such closely allied taxa.
We located this species in a small mire under Betula sp. and Salix atrocinerea in mid-September in Merindad de Montija (Burgos).
