Hebeloma ischnostylum
(Cooke) Sacc., 1887

Study description
A Hebeloma belonging to section Sacchariolentia, characterized by a potent, sweetish odor reminiscent of saccharin or burnt sugar.
Within this group, species with spore width below 7 µm may be confused with H. sacchariolens and H. fusisporum, which share similar habitats. An average spore quotient Q > 1.8 in ischnostylum separates it from sacchariolens (lower Q, generally darker pileus). Meanwhile, H. fusisporum possesses distinctly longer spores on average.
Found in deciduous forests, especially in wet areas with Quercus, Alnus, or Salix.
The collection studied was made in October under Alnus and Salix in a periodically flooded depression in Zeanuri (Bizkaia).
