Geoglossum cookeianum
Nannf.

Study description
Within the genus Geoglossum, this species is easily recognized by its large size (frequently exceeding 10 cm) and spathulate shape, often with a depressed and grooved clavula.
Growing in mossy grasslands, being especially frequent near coastal areas, typically from late autumn to early spring.
It represents the most common species of its genus and has been documented repeatedly.
The microscopic study presented here is based on a collection from mossy grassland in Orduña (Bizkaia) in mid-December. Additional macroscopic photographs include prior collections from Aiara (Álava) in December, and Gorliz and Arrigorriaga (Bizkaia) in November and December, respectively.
