Eupezizella aureliella
(P.Karst.) T.Kosonen, Huhtinen & K.Hansen

Study description
Eupezizella aureliella, recently recombined from the genus Hyaloscypha, is a minute ascomycete barely reaching 1 mm in diameter. It usually grows in very dense groups on heavily decayed coniferous wood, generally of Pinus spp.
Observed closely, its hairs with golden incrustations consisting of a resinous exudation are very striking.
Eupezizella britannica is a very similar species, both macroscopically and microscopically; however, they can be separated by the larger ascospores of the latter.
The collection studied here was made in the municipality of Berango (Bizkaia) in February, on heavily degraded wood, probably of Pinus radiata.
