Entoloma rhodocylix
(Lasch) M.M.Moser

Study description
A small omphalinoid Entoloma with a cap barely reaching 1 cm in diameter.
This rare species appears to fruit exclusively among Leucobryum glaucum moss on old logs or stumps of broadleaf trees.
Microscopically, Entoloma rhodocylix possesses distinctive features within its group, notably the presence of both cheilocystidia and clamped hyphae.
We discovered this interesting species in July 2022, fruiting alongside Galerina calyptrata in a hollow of a beech stump in an old, humid beech forest in Orozko (Bizkaia). This record represents the first for the Basque Country and one of very few from the Iberian Peninsula.
We thank Sabino Arauzo, an eminent expert in the genus Entoloma, for confirming the identity of this species.
