Cudoniella tenuispora
(Cooke & Massee) Dennis

Study description
This ascomycete, which can reach around 1 cm in diameter at maturity, typically fruits in groups on wood, plant debris, or even on the ground, usually in humid locations.
Cudoniella clavus is also a spring species and might resemble it, but is more slender with a longer stipe and typically occurs on semi-submerged wood in rivers and streams. Microscopically, the differences are more subtle, differing only in the morphology of the excipular hyphae.
The microscopy in this study is based on a collection made on a very wet beech branch in May in Orozko (Bizkaia). Additional photographs from two other collections made in May and June in Ubide (Bizkaia) and Legutio (Álava) are included.
