Study description

Amanita betulae, as its name indicates, is a mycorrhizal species exclusive to birch (Betula spp.). Its color, ranging from beige to more brownish or chestnut tones, and its exclusive habitat point the way within section Amanitopsis, where determinations are difficult even with exhaustive microscopic examination.

In our experience, it usually fruits solitary or in small groups from early summer to autumn.

The specimen studied here was collected in October in Abadiño (Bizkaia) alongside Javi Calvo, who previously knew of its presence in that area. The other photograph corresponds to another sighting in the municipality of Zeanuri, also under Betula pubescens and likewise in October.
